I bought this heavily stained suede Balenciaga handbag on Ebay for $149 with the intention of dying or painting it.
I started off by using gray Angelus acrylic leather dye. I already had the gray paint and decided to try it out vs getting a dye. It was a risky move using the acrylic paint on the suede as I wasn’t sure what the texture would be. It made it a bit stiff and somewhat shiny and I wasn’t too pleased with it, but at this point I was committed.
I bought Tarago Antique Silver shoe polish for the non suede portions and ended up just covering the whole bag with it.
I was not impressed as I’m not really into the metallic handbags, but I did like the buttery feel of the suede and ordered the shoe cream in Taupe Gray. On impulse I wore the metallic handbag a few days later and realized that I really liked it. I hesitated to redo it in the Taupe Gray but ended up liking this result the best of all.
The acrylic leather paint and shoe cream ended up giving the suede a nice texture that took away the sloppiness while still remaining very soft. I chose a darker color to hide any dirt or stains that may occur and I wanted to be able wear my purse and set it down without being overly concerned.
